Jewelry Gifts - From Head to Toe

You want to give a piece of jewelry as a gift. But what to give? There are perhaps more options than you thought. This article is designed to give you some new ideas as well as reminding you of the normal jewelry choices of rings, necklaces and the like. We will run through the body from head to toe and look at the options.

Starting at the head we have earrings (and nose-rings). There are also tiaras and circlets and all manner of jewelry that sits on the head. These can range from simple head bands to sophisticated gem-encrusted items. There is a particular type of body adornment called a 'Torc' (or 'Torque'). This type of decoration was first worn by the ancient Britons, Gauls and Germans. It consists of a strip of twisted metal made into a armband, necklace or collar.

You might think of jewelry gifts that clip into the hair rather than sitting on the head. Examples are hair-clips and hair-slides. These can be very attractive and are available in all price ranges. As a joke gift there are even hair-bands with messages or with balls and other objects on springs. Lastly there are 'Piercings' available for various parts of the body. This involves some form of minor surgery and we do not advise this. There are significant health risks involved and it is mentioned here only to complete the picture.

There are necklaces, pendants and chokers to go around the neck. These are available in all types and price ranges and make excellent jewelry gifts. Unusual examples of items for around the neck might include chains for spectacles or a bag containing a charm or memento. Religious symbols are popular. These should be chosen and given with care. They may be most suitable when given at a suitable religious occasion.

For the body and clothing there are pendants, brooches and similar items. There are very smart tie-pins and cuff-links for wearing with suits. For the right type of person a pocket watch on a chain would be an ideal gift. For more informal gifts there are all sorts of badges and buttons available. Some are based on TV shows, films and books. There are even items of jewelry of this kind for a more expensive gift.

For the arms and hands the traditional choices are rings, watches, bracelets and bangles. A ring for special occasion such as an engagement can be very expensive and you may have to plan months ahead to ensure that you can afford it. As well a finger rings there are also thumb rings. For the particular type of person then rings with symbols such as skulls or happy faces might be applicable. For the right type of person a Torc might be suitable.
