Most flowers used in tattoos are pretty recognizable. We have seen them all over. The rose, daisy, sunflower, carnation etc. are all very popular flowers. They are all beautiful and everyone loves them but sometimes it's nice to have something a little more unique. I am going to look at some of the more obscure flower choices and discover the meanings behind them.
Probably one of the most unique flower designs is the Cherry Blossom. You will see this design tattooed on some people but it is not that popular. It is a very delicate flower with 5 pink petals. It should be inked with a number of blossoms on a branch. In Japan, the cherry blossom symbolizes life.. as it blooms, matures and dies. The Chinese look upon the Cherry Blossom as an object of female beauty.
My second choice for a different flower design for tattoos is the Pansy. Pansies grow in almost every available color, from blues and purples to bright reds, oranges and yellows. They are an edible flower and when used in cooking, melt into beautiful pools of color. Some believe it can cure love sickness. It also has been associated with the Holy Trinity due to the tri-color design of many varieties.
The Anemone is my third choice. This gorgeous flower has many meanings and is a simple design to ink. The multitude of colors lends itself to realistic tattoos. This flower can be associated with sleep and death although this is not such a bad thing. In the from a the poppy, this flower is used to memorialize the fallen soldiers of the 2 world wars. The petals close at night and it is said that fairies sleep in them and wake when the petals open in the morning.
My fourth selection is the Bluebell. This wonderful flower has the beautiful purplish-blue color it's named after. The flower grows as if all the blossoms are just bells hanging off the stem. It is often seen in fields where the entire area is blanketed with blue. This flower is said to denote everlasting love and duration. It is said to be unlucky to pick this flower.
My last recommendation for a unique flower tattoo design is the Lily. This wonderful flower has long, white petals that suggest innocence and purity. In many cultures this flower has always been used to symbolize procreation and sexuality. The design is simple and refined. This flower makes a very noticeable tattoo design.
