Pursuing Photography - Where Does This Picture Taking Hobby End?

Having a keen interest in something or making it our hobby seems a fairly innocent action, but not knowing the lengths you will go to with it or the expense that it may ultimately cost makes it sound altogether sinister, and it may well be. Buying a camera to take up photography may seem a normal enough intention by someone, but is the start of something good or could it be the beginning of an epic journey that could end just about anywhere...

Once you have taken those first steps by purchasing the digital camera that you feel is the one for you and suits you best what next? If you bought it for a specific purpose such as going abroad for a break and want to have some nice photographs to show off when you return or perhaps you have a new found interest such as bird watching or a sport of some sort or another and want to get some great pictures as a record of the day or events.

Once a few photographs have been taken is it a question of simply accepting them as what they are or is there an urge to improve on them and try for a better quality picture. What about taking an even bigger step and upgrading some of our equipment such as better longer range lenses so we can take a better picture from further away.

Without going into major depth regarding some of the early stages photography as a hobby can be extremely addictive, so much so that it can lead to costing thousands upon thousands of pounds/dollars over a period and certainly the photographs get more and more complex and in many cases dangerous to obtain.

This is not always in the search of better pictures to show, but more-so an addiction for that ever better shot than the last one. As an interest, photography can be good, as a hobby it becomes great, but as a dedicated pursuit and passion it can become dangerous.

As demonstrated there are many aspects to photography. It is so much more than simply buying a camera for a few snaps and with the advance of digital photo graphics this obsession can be pursued so much easier. Photography is a fantastic outlet, but where does the hobby end and a glimpse of professional photographer begin.
