Taking Great Pictures - Tips For Digital Photography

Taking great pictures with a digital camera is not a small feat. Of course, everyone knows to take pictures and knows how to handle a camera, however there is a difference between taking pictures, and taking great pictures.

One of the great features of a digital camera is the fact that you can actually see what you are shooting on you LCD screen in real life. So you can make any adjustments as you go along.

For example taking pictures of fireworks is not an easy task, however it can be done if you have the proper exposure and all your camera settings are just the way they should be.

So here are a few tips that should help you get really great pictures with your digital camera no matter the occasion.

  • You need to learn your camera in and out. You have to know all its settings as without them you will simply not get the results that you need. One way is to read the actual guide that comes with your item, and also you need to simply practice, practice, practice. Luckily you won't waste anything if the image is not good, simply because you can now delete it without having to first develop it and pay money for it too, whether it's good or not.
  • Learn to use manual focus. Avoid using your auto-focus as it's not good for too many things. Also this way you will learn to have a 'feel' for your camera. This is especially important if you want to take great pictures in the dark outside.
  • Learn to use manual exposure. Try to imagine taking a picture of some beautiful fireworks. With auto-exposure this is simply not possible. You want to have the beautiful flashy colors against the dark sky and that is only achievable with the right exposure.
  • Learn to use the flash correctly and also learn to use the camera without a flash. There are times when flash is needed, however there are times when it should simply be avoided. For example if you want to take pictures of some small pieces like jewelry or bugs, flash has nothing to do there.
  • Take different shots of the same thing. What I mean by this is play with the zoom. Take the same shot with the zoom in and out. Also change the angle of the camera, take some shots horizontally and some vertically. Move to another place and take the same shot from another vantage point. What this will do is simply help you learn more about your camera and about how to take the best shots in various environments.
